In 2022, Amazon confirmed it had greenlit a television series based on Sony’s acclaimed God of War franchise, set to premiere on Prime Video. However, after that initial announcement, the project entered a very slow development phase, as the scripts required major revisions.
Now, during San Diego Comic-Con, new details about the project were revealed. In an interview with Collider, showrunner Ronald D. Moore explained that the scripts are still being worked on, but confirmed that Cory Barlog, director of the 2018 God of War game, has joined the team to help define the show’s narrative direction.
The TV adaptation will focus on the most recent entries in the franchise: God of War (2018) and Ragnarök (2022). Since both titles already have strong cinematic and story-driven elements, the show aims to retell that narrative for a broader audience—similar to the approach taken with The Last of Us—though significant changes to certain events are not off the table.
There is currently no release date or trailer available. Filming is expected to begin sometime in 2026, and at least two seasons of 10 episodes each are already planned.
