Today, South Korean studio Nyou has revealed new details about its upcoming PC MMORPG, Bellatores. Sign-ups for the Closed Beta Test (CBT) through Steam will open on July 8, and the test itself will run for five days, from July 30 to August 3.
In this test version, players will be able to choose from 2 of the 5 planned noble Houses, and the focus will be on core content such as combat, progression, and the skill system.
BELLATORES – DISCORD
CEO Jung Hwan Kim commented:
“Through this CBT, we aim to evaluate whether Bellatores delivers the gameplay experience we envision, in collaboration with the players. We plan to actively incorporate player feedback.”
In a previous interview, Nyou confirmed that Bellatores was originally being developed with Unreal Engine 4 and a tab-targeting combat system reminiscent of classic MMOs (EverQuest, World of Warcraft, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic). However, the game has taken a major turn: it now uses Unreal Engine 5 and features full action combat, with weapon swapping and stamina management as key elements in each encounter.

Mastery-Based Progression System
In the new developer diary, producer Lee Gi Baek reveals how the Mastery system will work:
Mastery-Based Progression
Instead of following fixed class paths or a linear leveling system, players will accumulate Mastery in different aspects (combat, survival, crafting) based on the weapons they use and the activities they undertake. As they reach certain Mastery milestones, they will unlock unique abilities or new combat styles, allowing them to experience different playstyles tailored to their acquired Masteries.
Crafting Mastery
Crafting efficiency, resource yields, and the chance to create rare items will depend on each player’s Crafting Mastery. Additionally, equipment will not drop as loot from monsters but will be obtained exclusively through crafting or trading with other players. The appearance and stats of crafted items will vary based on the creator’s Mastery, making crafting a core system for progression and community interaction.
Expert Mastery Cap
It will not be possible to master all Masteries to the highest level; each player will only be able to specialize in a limited number of them. This will encourage cooperation among users: to access all types of content, players will need to collaborate, promoting the social essence of an MMORPG.
This way, each character can be personalized with a unique identity based on their Masteries, affecting combat, survival, crafting, economic, and political activities. The goal is to avoid uniform content and instead allow each player to develop the role they prefer.
