Elden Ring has become one of the most influential new IPs of this generation. The open-world action RPG by FromSoftware, released in 2022, earned numerous Game of the Year awards and has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. Given its massive success, it’s no surprise that a movie adaptation is now in development—with A24 set to distribute the film.
According to Deadline, acclaimed director Alex Garland has been tapped to write and direct the Elden Ring movie. Garland is best known for Ex Machina (2014), Annihilation (2018), and most recently, Warfare (2025). He also has experience in gaming, having contributed to DMC: Devil May Cry (2013) as a writer.

While details remain scarce, the film will be produced by Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich, and George R. R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire and a creative contributor to the original game.
This won’t be A24’s first venture into video game adaptations—the studio is also working on the Death Stranding movie by Hideo Kojima, expected to release in 2027.
As with other FromSoftware titles, Elden Ring features a cryptic, environmental approach to storytelling. It will be fascinating to see how Garland and the production team bring that atmosphere to life on the big screen.
