In its Q1 2025 financial report, NCSOFT dropped unexpected news about its upcoming MMORPG, AION 2. CEO Park Byung-moon and CFO Hong Won-jun shared a development update, including test dates, release windows, and revenue projections.
It all starts on May 29, with a special live broadcast where NCSOFT will officially unveil the first gameplay details. The event follows the game’s announcement on May 13 and marks the beginning of its marketing push.
Closed testing begins in June
Starting in June, multiple closed testing phases are scheduled. First, internal tests with NCSOFT employees, then gradually expanding to external players. These sessions will help refine the game experience — but no monetization features will be shown yet, meaning the premium store will remain a mystery until closer to launch.
The game will release first in South Korea and Taiwan in November 2025, with a global launch set for mid-2026.
What’s inside AION 2?
AION 2 promises PvE raids, minigames, faction-based conflicts, and long-term progression systems. NCSOFT states that the events and gameplay loop will be more diverse and polished than Throne and Liberty, thanks to additional development time and resources.
The company also expects roughly $214 million USD in revenue from AION 2 during the 2026 fiscal year.
